The Toussaint L. Hale, Sr., Scholarship and Benevolence Fund (FUND), Inc., was incorporated in 1978, as a non-profit 501 (C)(3) tax exempt organization, in honor of Mr. T. L. Hale, Sr., a retired school teacher in the Birmingham public school system. Mr. Hale served in the school system for over fifty years and garnered a reputation as a dedicated and thoughtful teacher. A group of professionals created the FUND in an effort to assist students in the Greater Birmingham area school systems with scholarships and tutorial assistance. In addition, through its benevolence component, the FUND assists families in crisis with food and clothing. Since its inception, the FUND has become an integral part of the community. Scholarships and other assistance have been awarded to many students and organizations that serve the city of Birmingham. The number of professionals who donate their time and effort to the FUND has increased significantly. The FUND is at the pinnacle of a new evolution of services that will have a lasting benefit on the area.
